Coffee & Tea 10

Tasty Mexican downtown, and a fine cup of coffee (Vancouver)

I stopped by Molli for lunch today, which is the first retail storefront past the gas station on the southwest corner of Burrard and Davie Very nice tacos (cochinita pibil and res, the latter of which was my favourite and perfectly seasoned) at $2.50 each -- they also had mushroom and bean which I didn't try. Good green salsa, creamy style, was provided on request. The server told me her favourite torta was de pollo, so that's what I had. Really hearty, with lots of hot filling, melted cheese, sliced tomatoes and avocados plus cilantro. The telera (bun) was the right texture and heft -- only available wholesale. A solid deal at $8.75. They had horchata and jamaica for $1.90; I went with the latter and it was worthy. My new favourite Mexican option in town. Wish I'd had room for the tortilla soup, and I'll be back to sample the molletes for breaky.

Since I got free (!) parking just a block away, I toddled over to Container Coffee for a brewed cup of Matchstick. I think I like it better brewed on a Fetco than as a pourover, which is what I usually have. I was too full, but happy to report that they are carrying pastries from Cadeaux.

While I was there, a guy was consulting with them on the care and feeding of one of their grinders. It was a very serious conversation, which I take as a good sign. Container is in the bottom of a hotel, but don't let that stop you from checking it out the next time you are near St Paul's. Great to have two quality coffee choices in this area (see also Musette's original location
