tasting/buying wine in Portland

Windy | May 9, 200312:55 AM     4

Hi all,

Two SF Chowhounds are headed to Portland, Olympic National Park, and brief stops in Victoria and Seattle. I was hoping to fit in a day of tasting in Willamette Valley, but I'm not sure we'll have time.

I read Jim Dixon's thread (below) about various wine bars/small plates restaurants in Portland; do any of these specialize in Oregon wines esp. pinot noirs from smaller wineries?

Is the Oregon Wine Center south of McMinnville worth a detour? The only day we'd have to head south is a weekday. Or is there a wine store downtown or near the airport with tastings & good prices?

Finally, if you have any tips for foods in Portland (or elsewhere on our 101 loop) that are rarely found in San Francisco, post away. So far I have about a month's worth of dining that we need to cram into a week.

Thanks!
