It was a busy day on the north side yesterday, with the Pakistani parade vying for space with the Ecuadorean parade. There was a huge crowd in Warren Park for Taste of Pakistan, and I was fortunate enough to be in the area for a couple of visits early in teh day and then late in the afternoon. Most prominent among the vendors were stands from Cafe Zam Zam, Ambala and the Cricket Club of Chicago. Vast expanses of chicken tikka sizzled on huge grills everywhere. I tried several things - all very passable for festival fare, especially the assorted sweets from Ambala and the spicy lamb "eggroll." The park was absolutely packed by late afternoon, and music played all day. I really enjoyed seeing the beautiful special-occasion formalware and saris of every conceivable color, pattern and style. What a diverse city we live in!
