had dinner there saturday.. was attending a wedding there, but they had the items served at the dinner on the regular menu... so that was nice way to try a few things.
first off.. it is a nice, homey place. friendly staff and nice courtyard. I was surprised to find a very nice bar, wine list, etc. and aside from the planes flying over head, you don't realize your eating in a restaurant that backs up to a strip mall.
they had a few passed apps... a chicken skewer that was good but forgettable, I ate it mostly because I was starving. crab cakes, which were also good, but there was a lot of breading/filler compared to crab. I expected better (e.g. more crab meat) but since it isn't exactly high crab season... well... anyway, came with a little sauce that tasted very much like french's mustard. still they were good, well seasoned. the best app was the buschetta. the tomatoes tasted home grown, lightly dressed with balsamic vin & basil, topped the goat cheese base which was nice and toasted on the bread was a pleasant surprise. very tasty... I'm a sucker for goat cheese. mmm... I'd order these again when I go back.
For dinner I had a grilled steak with a lime/teriyaki sauce, sauteed snap peas and grilled red potatoes. the steak was very tender (not sure of the cut)... the lime teriyaki actually worked, though the sauce was a little thin. the snap peas were very fresh tasting, and the roasted red potatoes were... well, roasted red potatoes. good, but not great.
My hubbie had grilled chicken with a chipotle glaze and apricot sauce. the best part of his dinner were the gruyere scalloped potatoes were soooooo goooood. just the right amount of cheese, nice and creamy, smooth and good. the chicken was tasty, but the sauce was a bit too sweet. The apricot over-powered the chipotle glaze on the chicken. it was a dish that could have been better, but just wasn't quite there. but the chicken was tender and moist.
all in all a good experience. Makes me want to return for a non-wedding event. thanks for the tips hounds!
