My boyfriend and I had an early Valentine's dinner at Taro's on Church Street in Montclair on Sunday, Feb. 10. I thought the food was very good. The decor is minimalistic with forest green walls, and huge bamboo trunks up to the ceiling.
My boyfriend had barbecued ribs as an appetizer. The presentation was beautiful and the food was good. I especially like the mashed taro that served as the base for the ribs. He had spicy beef broth with noodles. I only tried the broth and it brought tears to my eyes. He took most of his food home because he wasn't feeling well.
I had fried spinach dumplings filled with mashed taro with a ginger scallion dipping sauce. I'd go back just for that appetizer alone. It was excellent, just a little too greasy. I had a special of grilled sea bass with greens and jasmine rice. I should have sent it back because it was lukewarm. But since both of us werent' feeling feel (just colds, not because of the restaurant), we decided to leave sooner than later.
My boyfriend had oolong tea (in a bag) with water from a cast iron tea pot. I had mango sorbet as a dessert. It was heavenly and definitely handmade. I would definitely go back again when we are feeling better.
