Taqueria rants

Just some random annoyances I've encountered lately...

La Taqueria: what's with the $3 tacos? I've never eaten there and thought I'd give it a try the other night. I knew they were supposed to be expensive, but $3?! I wasn't feeling charitable enough to contribute to the Michael Bauer Best-Mexican-In-The-Bay-Area Trust Fund so I went elsewhere. Experienced taco hounds: is there anything worth getting at La Taqueria that I can't find for less in the same neighborhood?

Pancho Villa: what a lifeless burrito. Do you season anything? The salsa bar is a nice touch, and I dig that the molcajete-made roasted tomato salsa is still warm, but c'mon, can't you offer at least one truly spicy salsa? It's you and your buddies that have me considering getting a bottle of La Favorita's Bottle-Of-Hot-Ass-Stuff and carrying it with me whereever I go.

Taqueria Cancun: why even bother with the chips and salsa? Just do away with the Frito-like chips and watery pico de gallo and its underripe tomatoes. And as much as I like reheated al pastor, don't reheat it right in the pool of beef juices from my carne asada. It was hard to tell the difference between the two meats, especially since the al pastor tasted more like beef than the carne asada. And was that horchata or wastewater from a chalk quarry?
