Are you all seeing tons of these tapioca pearl tea places (a la St. Alps) popping up everywhere? Or is it a case of trying it once and then noticing places that have been there all along?
I am happy to see them popping up because I am hooked on the stuff and can get my fix in a variety of locations now.
I first tried St. Alps on 9th St. then Chinatown, then discovered that Ten Ren tea shop has their own tea parlor (79 Mott St., just north of the tea shop). The Ten Ren place is a little cheaper than St. Alps.
Then a friend introduced me to a place in the East Village called East Pearl Cafe (113 St. Marks between 1st Ave. and Ave. A). The latter had pretty good dim sum like snacks (great scallion pancakes, really light) and their tea was more sugary than the other places. Their prices are similar to St. Alps.
I can find places downtown now but what about other neighborhoods? Will I find myself searching in vain uptown for my glass of tea with floating black balls in it? Does anyone have any other places they can suggest?
