We had read about this place in the local paper a while back and wandered in there early Fri. night on the spur of the moment. Actually, wee had just come from Sushi on Shea where we had a light sushi dinner. We spot this establishment in the same shopping center as Sushi (Northwest corner of Shea and Scottsdale Rd.)and in we go. It is a beautiful restaurant with a center divider of a handsome mahogany wine wall and lots of ambiance - dark tones and perfect slightly dark lighting. We sit at the bar and inform the bartender that this is our first experience at a tapas restaurant and he graciously explains the routine. Actually, as everyone probably knows tapas means "small plates". We were there at happy Hour - wines and each plate are all only $5.00. The wines are all moderately priced and usuall run betweeen $10.00 and $15.00 a bottle. We had the Kings Estate Pinot Noir which we selected after being offered a taste of 2 other wines at no charge. DH had wonderful grilled baby octupus, I had excellent carpaccio and we split foie gras atop a mini brioche waffle. The owner came by to introduce himself after the bartender had tipped him off that this was our first visit. The food really was excellent, the wines quite good and we would definitely go back. Parking above-ground can be a nightmare as this is where Claim Junper is, but there is underground parking right beneath this restaurant. Tapino.com has the full scoop.
