tapas en W'burg

laura | Aug 12, 2005 12:59 PM

It's been years since the last time I had a real tapas experience. The Basque Country and some places in Madrid are my weakness. I also cook, so I'm tough cookie.
Zipi Zape surprised me with its incredible cuisine (patatas bravas, vieiras, pulpo, lomo de cerdo and they even have two of my favorite wines. My friends tried the sangria, which I always find hideous - i'm spanish, sangria is for the toros or the street fairs, we don't do sangria-.
My husband had a cocktail that had hardly any alcohol...we asked the gracious waitress about it and she couldn't do anything for us therefore we had to go back to wine.
I loved the place not the comics (Zipi Zape is an old comic for kids, so dumb I'll never allow my kids to read it). Loved the waitstaff (twice I've been there and the waiters/tress are extremely sweet and helpful -they're all spanish-). Couldn't stand the volume of the music. Is just imposible to talk and the selection is trully "a spanish torture".
I didn't think the prices were high but the quantity extremely small EXTREMELY SMALL and come on! I know the sizes!
The chocolate souffle is to die for.
Zipi Zape is a good place for tapas but you have to give us a break if you want a loyal clientele.
