I ate at Tangerine Saturday night with my parents (I've now tried all the Starr places but El Vez...) and I was blown away by the quality of the food we ordered.
We started with the best part - a gnocchi dish, with some kind of greens at the side and a tomato-creamy-spicy-cheesey sauce that was just unbelievable. We also ordered the chickpea crepes, which were outstanding -- they tasted something like bastilla (pastilla?) and came with a pomegranate glaze.
We had the pork chop, the duck and the shrimp and scallop curry (that's served with fufu, someone mentioned it on an earlier post, I'm pretty sure fufu means something having to do with mixing one mushed up item into some chopped and fried items, because I've made other fufus before--does anyone know more?). All were delicious, plentiful, and served with really tasty sides (in addition to the fufu, there were creamy onion strips, foie gras, beans, rice, etc).
We also ordered the chocolate decadence - a chocolate cake with chocolate cream and pear slices. It was all just great.
This is the only place I've been to that I would say I enjoyed as much as Morimoto -- in terms of just absolutely amazing taste, presentation, service, and (most importantly) quality of ingredients. WOW.
