Tamara's Tamales - review

oc climber | Dec 20, 200510:08 PM

My family all loves good food. Not in the "foodie" sense that you have to eat here or there. Nay, in the sense that we grew up poor and a gem can be found under a rock in most communities.

Well, my mom was looking under rocks for my move to Tustin and a box of tamales arrived on my doorstep today, to ease the moving distress of not finding food stuffs.

I had potato and chorizo and cilantro pesto tamales as I packed, worked and busted butt.

The potato and chorizo tamales were very good, okay excellent. The potato was still firm and the chorizo mildly spicy. Very good.

Next up were the cilantro pestos, which I passed for the old school favorite. Oh man was it good. The cilantro pesto was very mellow and the chicken was very moist, even after cooking.

Both came in a great masa that was flavorful and not overpowering.

I checked out the menu that they stuffed in the box, and that I tossed aside for food. The selection is amazing from vegitarian fare, to classics like pork and red chile or chicken mole. I'm pretty blown away that this place has existed and somehow, I've not found it (but my mom did from Bellingham, WA).

Thank you, Mom.
