This small family-owned bakery in Cloverdale has fresh tamales every day. Steaming hot right out of the steamer to consume immediately or available chilled if you're stocking up.
Last week I stopped by to grab a couple. Late lunch time and no more of the pork ones were ready hot, my usual order. So I tried the cheese and chile (rajas) and also a sweet corn (elote) tamal at $2.25 apiece. The tamales have thin paper wrapped around the corn husks, which is much better than the plastic wrap that many places use. And then the two were packaged in aluminum foil and tucked in a paper bag, and they stayed hot enough for the 15-minute drive for me to get home.
I really liked the cheese and chile one. Light and fluffy masa with just the right amount of salt, and no other seasoning needed. The chile pepper strips were truly spicy hot. I was glad I'd waited till I got home where I'd have more beverages on hand instead of eating it in the car. The elote was okay, but rather low on the sweet corn content. But I'd happily get the rajas tamales again.
As an accommodation in the time of Covid-19, a plexiglass shield on the counter separates the staff from the customers.
