Tamale lunch from Lilianas

I work in an office with about 40 people. They run the Chowishness gamut, but they DO like to eat. And like most Southern Californians they like Mexican food.

Today one of our people treated us to tamales from Tamales Lilianas. Now, I have to say, these weren't the tamales I will be making tomorrow with friends. These are large (two made a filling serving) and lacked that home-made, hand-wrapped charm. But they were tasty, tasty tasty.

I had one that was chicken with green chile. Spicy from the green chile and enough dark meat in the chicken to keep it nice and moist. And I had one green chile cheese that was just delicious. In both the masa was firm but moist -- really just right.

We also had Lilianas rice (good but nothing to write home about) and refried beans (significantly tastier than the average).

My last commercial tamales hailed from Sandra's and Lolita's. They were OK, though rather soft and wet. Lilianas tamales were much better.

A definite thumbs up.

They also have a location on east First Street near Indiana. I wonder if the tamales come out of the same kitchen? I'm guessing the First Street is location is just as good since it's recommended by Dommy!

Chow!
