There's been a lot of threads on Vietnamese food in San Diego, but I noticed that very few were about my favorite dish: com tam, or broken rice. I love pho, bun bo hue, banh beo, banh mi, etc., but if a Vietnamese resto has good com tam, I'm there. My favorite is com tam bi cha suon nuong, which is broken rice (com tam), shredded pork meat and tendons (bi), steamed egg/pork cake (cha), and a grilled pork chop marinaded with lemongrass (suon nuong).
My favorite place for com tam is Phuong Trang. I know it's known as having mediocre pho, but the com tam is pretty awesome here, which keeps it on my rotation.
Anyone else love this dish? Where in San Diego do you like it?
