A Tale of Two XLBs: Happy Cafe and Shanghai Classic

PekoePeony | Apr 26, 200512:26 AM     8

By some strange coincidence, I had the XLTB (Shanghai dumplings with soup inside) at both Happy Cafe in San Mateo (lunch) and Shanghai Classic in San Jose (dinner) yesterday.

Both were pretty good, but I'll give Shanghai Classic dumplings the edge: the skin was slightly thinner, there was quite a bit more soup, and it was nice seeing the chefs make it fresh just a few feet away. Both places have much better XLB than at Su Hong in PA (XLB are nothing special here) and Koi Palace in Daly City (decent XLB for a Cantonese restaurant).
