A tale of 2 italian Rests In Sac...One good.....

Went out to Serritella's (Fair Oaks and Marconi)for dinner last week. Always an old favorite. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs $10.95(something I never order). With the full dinner.(extra $4.25). With the full dinner you get antipasto (salami, pepperonici's, etc)soup (minestrone, yum!!!) and salad (house made blue cheese, yum!). Good thing I ordered a smaller dinner because I was so full from this and the delicious breadsticks. Hot from the oven with garlic butter seasoning and butter of peanut butter to top them off! the meatballs (2 good size) were very tasty as was the marinara sauce. All housemade. A very satisfying meal. the service, though youngsters, was very attentive without being intrusive. Two things that could be improved are that they need to have fresh grated parmesan cheese at the table and fresh cracked pepper. the parm that was on the table was fresh grated but still in one of those pizza place decanters. the pepper (a pet peeve)was typical course ground. But still one of the best traditional Italian meals we have had in a very long time in Sacramento. (in the Entertainment book too!)

Yesterday we went to lunch at the Olive Garden on Sunrise. My Mom's choice. We were greeted by the hostess outside of the restaurant and taken to our table. Our server came and started apologizing for her voice.(she had a cold and it was unecessary). After the breadsticks came(bland,no seasoning, no butter!) we placed our order. Mom, as always, went with the manicotti and I opted for the soup and salad and breadsticks. Our server apologized for her slow service with the breadsticks (again unnecessary). the salda is pretty good with olives and fresh grated cheese and peperonicis. I like their house italian dressing and dug in. The soup, on the other hand was horrible, the worst minestrone I have ever had. my Moms manicotti was so overcooked (in the microwave!) that she could not cut it (with a knife!). I asked her if she wanted to send it back and she said that it is always this way no matter what! Our server apaologized for everything including a half empty glass of water. All in all ,not very good. I am glad I only go here with my Mom once a year!
