We stumbled onto a taiyaki stall at Marukai Market in Gardena this weekend. The fresh, hot cakes are both adorable and tasty and a great post-grocery shopping snack.
Two variations are being made right now: red bean paste and chocolate with custard. The stall is owned and operated by Kinokuni Bakery and has been open since late January.
I talked to the proprietor this morning to confirm the details and he said the stall is opened every weekend and the cooks are happy to put in any filling that you like. We were thinking Toblerone with custard would be great.
I usually only lurk on Chowhound but I wanted to spread the good word.
Any Japanese dessert experts out there who can further weigh in?
