Tail Up Goat - Adams Morgan, Washington DC

Worldwide Diner | Feb 21, 2016 07:08 AM

This "comfortable neighborhood joint" is a new venture by ex-Komi/Little Serow employees. "The restaurant's name is a nod to the U.S. Virgin Islands."

I loved me some salt fish when I visited St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. Lucia, St. Martin...so I had to try their "crispy salt cod, smoked cauliflower, pickled red onion." The menu didn't say croquettes but that's what I got. The menu also didn't say they would be devoid of salt fish flavor. I was super disappointed. Don't tell me you have some connection to the Caribbean and then serve me potato balls.

The second course was "grilled rabbit sausage, fennel mostarda, marinated radicchio." I envisioned a sausage but instead I got four tiny slices (the photo made them look larger) of sausage, skewered with some bitter vegetables.

My third course, "cavatelli, octopus ragu, green olive, breadcrumbs," was a winner. I liked the firmness of the cavatelli, the slightly spicy octopus ragu, and the crunchiness of the breadcrumbs.

My last course was a whole grilled quail with Greek yogurt and chimichurri. The quail was nicely grilled but not easy to eat. And I was disturbed by the Greek yogurt. I don't think it mixed well with the chimichurri, but they were served together.

Komi,
Little Serow
