When is Tai Chi not Tai Chi?

Answer: When its a very bad Chinese restaurant in Polk street.

I should have seen this one coming. It was recommended by one of the Bay Area newspapers that knows nothing about Asian food. The restaurant claims to have Hunan and Mandarin food. Is does not. The food is clearly standard Bay Area Chinese fare with the addition of chilli for the "Hunan" numbers and hoisin sauce for the "Mandarin".

I would not have complained if the food had been good despite this obvious deception but even here it failed. The cook dished up a confusion of sugar, salt and undercooked vegies which would make any decent Chinese chef squirm. The service was also a bit on the rough side. Upon arrival the waitress addressed us with the following: "Ok Go quickly to your seats; Hurry up and order..Kitchen closes in half an hour; Soups and Chao Mian I no can do;I serve all your dishes together so you eat and go.... "
