Tacoteca--Good, Irritating, and Overpriced

Haeldaur | Dec 18, 201410:47 PM     33

I checked out Tacoteca tonight, the new Mexican place in Santa Monica associated with Ricardo Diaz and Adam Fleischman. On the bright side, the tacos were absolutely delicious. Great corn tortillas, flavorful fillings, legitimate spice--no complaints.

Now, the down side. First, the pricing is just ridiculous. We paid $55 per person with drinks and tacos. Why is each taco at least $6? Drinks for $13? No thanks.

The service was typically aloof and annoying for a Fleischman place. You ever go to 800 degrees and wait on people who could not possibly care less about their job? Well, if they graduate that rigorous training program, I think they head here.

We also had two sides--street corn, and guacamole. The corn was quite good; the guacamole was a preposterous joke for the price. The smallest serving on the "guacamole" appetizer was the guacamole itself.

Food was good enough, but I won't be back.
