OK... this is in response to Miss Sue's post a few weeks back... I was in Norwalk the other day, near fort point road, so decided to do a side-by-side comparison of the at tacos mexico and los portales grocery. los portales is definitely better... the carnitas at tacos mexico were dry and stringy... los portales had more flavor and much more moist. Carnitas at los portales still isn't as good as some places just a little south down 95, but still very good, and the best, I think, in Norwalk.

Best thing at Los Portales, though, is their grocery. It's the only place I've seen anywhere around that sells dried chiles in bulk by the pound. The mexican groceries in Port Chester don't even do that... Best of all, Portales sells bulk dried chipotles. They are behind one of the tiny aisles in a box at the bottom. I picked a few up... great smokey flavor.
