Seems ridiculous to post yet another positive report on Tacos Moreno (1053 Water St.), but I'm fresh off a meal from them tonight and feeling inspired to say more for the record. See link to my first post on them.
I'll be leaving town for nearly a week and this will be my last taqueria meal in SC for a little while, but well, I couldn't have asked for better. Tried take-out this time and ordered for Y (this is how I will refer to hubby from here on out) and me: carnitas super burrito and three tacos--lengua (tongue), carnitas, and al pastor. Lengua is 50 cents extra, threw in a Jarritos orange soda, and total came to around $16. Sounds a bit pricey for taqueria food, but let me assure you, it's really worth every penny. There was a healthy line of hungry locals when I arrived, but service was swift.
Got home and delved into my burrito and thought to myself...I don't know if I've had better in my life. No ingredient was extraneous. Pork meat was injected w/ so much flavor and had perfect balance of smokiness and fat. Pinto beans, cabbage slivers, sour cream, avocado, and tomatoes offset it perfectly. The tender, creamy flour tortilla made for a luscious foil. And w/ a lacing of their spicy salsa, I was in burrito nirvana. The burrito from El Paisano that I had recently was laughable in comparison.
Had a bite of each taco, and while they were all tasty, something about the burrito was more rapturous. Having tried a number of combinations now, I think I have found my pinnacle item here--carnitas super burrito.
Well, off to Death Valley to soak in some nature, where I will be living off of packed sandwiches, trail mix, and bad casino food for a bit.
