Tacos Al Pastor

annieb | Feb 9, 200312:05 PM

Was prompted to post this by discussion of food police below, last night we picked up take out from Los Mogotes de Michoacan on 4700 block of N. Kimball.

I have been waiting several weeks to have their Mole de Olla, which they list as available on weekends. They have not had it, so last night I took a flier on a huarache al pastor.

I'm not really a fan of al pastor, haven't ordered it in years after being disappointed too many times. Well, last night's was wonderful, they had used pork with the skin on (available con cuero at supermercados) and the result was a luscious mix of bits of meat, some slightly crispy, some beautifully moist, and wonderful pieces of the skin. Not overly greasy and beautifully spiced. But definitely would not pass the food police's inspection. Came on top of a nice layer of cheese and onions.

Now I'm tempted to try the al pastor at the Taqueria el Gallo on Montrose near Drake Bowl, last time I stopped in there I noticed that theirs is topped with a pineapple on the spit.
