My husband and I wanted to grab a quick lunch before the movies today. We had never tried Tacone and were intrigued. The picture of the sweet potato fries caught my attention. The service was poor. We walked in at 11:45 and there were no other diners. They looked like they were preparing a large order for take-out so we were ignored for awhile, standing forlorn at the cash registers. Finally when the man at the counter tore himself away from whatever he was doing, he didn't even make eye contact and just said "Yes??" as if he was so irritated and annoyed that we would bother him and actually want to buy the food he was selling. He took our order and our money without so much as a thank you. My husband gave his name and even spelled it out, but when the order was ready something not understandable was being barked out. By then there were other diners so we didn't know it was ours. He finally got impatient and started pointing at my husband and the food. When we were done eating the same man that took our order proceeded to bus & clear all the tables on one side of the restaurant... of course not the side we were sitting on, even though by looking at our dishes, we were clearly done. The problem is that the food is pretty decent when you need a quick, non-complicated meal. My husband ordered the grill chicken breast, a side salad and the sweet potato fries, which were good. I had the Thai Cone which was jasmine rice, chicken, thai peanut sauce & thai cucumber salad. I liked the sauce bar. I have no explanation for the harsh service. Lately I've been infatuated with Redwood City and have never received service like this at Old Port Lobster Shack, Cafe La Tartine, Red Lantern, Tarboosh, Martin's West... No I'm not expecting 5 star service, just don't treat me like you're mad I'm there. Maybe he was just having a bad day. Other customers seemed to be treated in a much more friendly way. Will I go back? I don't know.
