Taco Truck -- South El Monte, El Paisano Restaurant

Like-Go-Eat? | Aug 22, 200505:25 AM

I see so much talk about “Taco Trucks” I thought I might add something. In South El Monte and El Monte many such trucks have come and gone over the years. Some fly-by-night and for good reason. Others sell good food and stay for awhile. One such truck would park during the evening hours in the parking lot of the old, “California doughnut” stand on Peck Rd. The Carne Asada or Lengua Tacos and Burritos were so good (it was the marinade) that the truck owner soon owned The California doughnut stand. The Hot Truck was sold but the owner made the same tacos and burritos along side the doughnuts inside the stand (still called the “Taco Truck” by locals). Now the doughnuts are gone and more hot food items have been added to the menu. The name has also been changed -- “El Paisano Restaurant.” The marinade and cooking is the same as it was on the Taco Truck.. I cannot comment about any of the new items on the menu because I have not tried them. I stopped trying new Taco Trucks twenty years ago because my favorite Carne Asada burrito and Lengua Tacos are still sold at El Paisano Restaurant (aka, “The Taco Truck). Have any Chowhounds been here?
