Hi --

I'm a New Yorker in exile (living in SF) who will be in NYC to celebrate my 30th with family and friends in November. Need a place to satisfy a crowd from age 2 to 102 (seriously), with a couple of demands:

1. quiet, so that my family can yell and be heard
2. well-lit
3. great food, without attitude or artifice
4. not outrageously expensive
5. (sigh) not Indian food, per my dad's request. this is a true disappointment.

A private room would be best ... any neighborhood in Manhattan is good, though UWS and UES are easiest for the older crowd.

Kind thanks for your advice. If you're looking for a bite in SF, I'd be happy to advise ...
