TABLA BREAD BAR review

mrnyc | Oct 26, 2003 08:37 AM

my spouse and i walked in and sat at the bar around six saturday night. no problem. the place opens at 5:30pm on the weekend and only started to get full as we left.

we each had a drink. she had the tamarind margherita ($9.75) and i the tablatini($9.25). stunningly delicious frou-fy drinks. good as ever.

for bar food we had the rosemary naan and olive naan with preserved lemon chutney. the rosemary is best, the olive being warm and fluffy but flavorless. i'm a fan of preserved lemons so i thought that was good but of course how do you mess that up? the ceviche was spicy and tasty. it was a little plate of salmon and tilapia. each bite was best when you eat it with a piece of raw onion. it was ok but no it did not mix well with the drinks so i should have picked something else.

after being hypnotized by the marketing pull of the pumpkin face on the draft beer tap and against my better judgement i ordered a draft of some sort of pumpkin ale. suprise it was great. just a little spicy and very smooth. usually these special ales are sweet and syrupy, but this was pretty dry. wish i could remember the brand.

so it was nice to review a few old favorite items at TABLA again. fine place to have very tasty drinks and a bite to eat. especially if you go early. i think the total bill was around $60.
