What was this Szechuan dish?

Back when Szechuan food was a novelty in New York, a friend of mine took me to a small restaurant on Doyers Street where I had dish of ground meat (beef or pork) with noodles. At the time I thought it was one of the spiciest foods I'd ever eaten -- and one of the most delicious. This was many years ago and I long to try it again, yet I haven't seen anything like it on most of the menus I've perused. Does anyone know what this dish is called and where it is served in NYC? (I realize this is probably a hopeless pursuit of a lost dream of youth -- but I'm an incurable optimist.)
