This is a new place that has been open a couple months. Across from Richmond Center where a different Szechuan restaurant was previously.
Good, authentic Szechuan in a small hole-in-the-wall eatery.
We had an appy of spicy bean jelly (thick bean noodles in very spicy chilli oil) and a bowl of sliced fish with pickled vegetables. This was a large soup-style dish with lightly cooked whitefish and pickled cabbage in a mildly spicy and sour soup, refreshing and delicious.
Followed by Kung po chicken...wonderfully sour and hot chicken with peanuts and plenty chillis (my fave of the night, and the best kung po I've had), the classic Szechuan boiled sliced beef with chilli, a plate of hot and sour cabbage, and pork kidney in sour chilli garlic sauce.. All very good, if you ask them to cook the dishes authentic Szechuan spicy they will throw a lot more chillis at you, otherwise they come moderately (for me, anyway...i have fairly high heat tolerance) spicy. Next time I will order the beef extra-hot. Large portions (good for 4-5 people) at around $10-$13 for mains.
This is now my fave Szechuan place in Richmond, great value, a very friendly owner and well worth checking out.
