Linden, NJ is home to a substantial Polish population--lagre enough to support several delis and small restaurants that are scattered about town. Syrena's is located on St. George's Ave (Rt 27) just south of Stiles Street in the National Wholesale Liquidators strip mall. There are all sorts of imported European food products, as well as a butcher section where there are all sorts of kielbacas, hams, etc. sold. In the very back is a counter with prepared meals--six or seven entrees, all Polish comfort food (stuffed cabbage, fried pork chop, chicken cutlet, beef in horseradish sauce, and meatballs are examples). You get an entree, a mountain of potatoes (roast or mashed), some homemade chopped red cabbage and mixed veggies--the entire portion can feed 2 people--for $5. And the food is delicious. It is the best deal found anywhere.
