Sweet Mama's back in the Slope

Lambretta76 | Dec 1, 2002 03:40 PM

The Rising, at 186 Fifth Ave. in Park Slope, has retooled their kitchen as an outpost of the southern restaurant Sweet Mama's, which has moved to a Billyburg location after starting out on 7th Avenue up the hill.

Had the brunch today (chicken fried steak, cheese grits, fried apples) - and, while it is slighlty more expensive than the L-train local, the food was actually better. The kitchen is small, churning out only a selection from the full Sweet Mama menu, and the coca-cola baked ham is not available, but the service is much better (and more friendly) and the coffee is fantastic.

All those PS people who miss the old 7th Ave. location should go down and show some support for this new venture. (I believe it may have been the first weekend of this, and there were only 3 other tables seated in the hour I was there.)
