Sweet Mama's Poor Service

Shari Sperling | May 7, 2002 10:21 PM

My boyfriend and I wanted to try 'Sweet Mama's' in Williamsburg, since we'd just read all the great reviews. When it took half an hour to order a drink with only five other parties in the restaurant, we were annoyed. Our waiter offered to pay for our round of beer, which we finally got. After a full hour went by and we hadn't received our food, the waiter said it would be 'on the house'. This made us feel good enough to want to stay and eat it. However, when we were finished he said, 'I meant the beer was free', but he'd clearly verbally extended the freebie to the food when we'd threatened to leave. After he saw us eat, he claimed that he'd never said it. I just wanted to get home in time to watch the season finale of the Osbournes, and thought I'd left myself plenty of time. Even though the food was better than just okay, my uncomfortable experience there makes me not want to ever return.
