Sweet Basil in Richmond Hill

New restaurant called Sweet Basil opened up in Richmond Hill on Bayview north of Major Mac a few months ago.

Pan-Asian inspired food (Thai, malaysian, pho, cantonese) with modern decor and attentive service.

Excellent, fresh, clean, zingy flavours in crab cakes, satay pad thai noodles, basil lime mango salad, satay chicken, spicy shrimp, mango salad with greens.

Hainese (sp?) steamed rice is a nice alternative to plain steamed rice.

Pineapple chicken rice, seafood nest, and seafood chow mein were good cantonese style food with fresh ingredients that were expertly cooked.

Kids and adults loved the freshly cooked prawn chips.

Spring rolls were okay. Cold salad rolls were nice, but I think it would be better if they were paired with a lighter vinegary peanut sauce rather than the thick peanut sauce.

Bad note. On one visit, the shanghai noodles had a burnt taste to it. Bad night for the chef?

On the other 3 visits, the food was excellent.

Highly recommended.
