I just wanted to submit a post based on our dinner last night. Based on other reviews on this board, I was tempted to cancel our reservation at Sweet Basil and go elsewhere for dinner but I'm so happy I didn't. We had a Sunday night reservation and were promptly seated and offered the drink menu. After selecting a Pink Taco and a Perfect Margarita, my dining companion and I settled in for a 3 hour tour. After lots of consideration, we decided on 3 apps each, along with a bottle of Veladora (after consultation with the sommelier). I started out with the corn chowder with crab and procuitto. It was a generous portion served with just a spoonful of crabmeat, proscuitto, and a little jalapeno. I almost licked the bowl. My companion had the halibut seviche. It was served with avocado salsa and chips and was cool and fresh. My second course was the pasta "carbonarish" with guaciale, peas, mushrooms, and a poached egg. It was one of the best pasta dishes I have ever eaten. The smoked pork flavor married perfectly with the creamy egg. My companion had the watermelon/crab salad. It was definitely the surprise dish of the evening. A crab/melon salad was mixed with watermelon for an unbelievable dish. We both concluded with the porke belly which was served over fresh corn. The Veladora complimented our dished perfectly and, while recommended by the sommelier, was a very modestly priced option at about $45 for a bottle. For dessert, I chose the coconut-lime panna cotta with kiwi sorbet. The only "strong arm tactic" of the evening by the server was the suggestion of the overly sweet sticky toffee pudding. We acquiesced but it was just too much. The meal was one of the best I have had all year. By contrast, we dined on Saturday night at Juniper and I was significantly underwhelmed by the food and service. Sweet Basil was definitley a sweet ending to a weekend in the mountains for me.
