Sushi Zone, Oakland Chinatown

We started off Friday night looking for a place to eat. My bf and I tried Kirala in Berkeley for sushi, but the wait was 1.5 hours! Coincidentally, we met 5 friends there and we headed off to Battambang (post below). The next day for lunch, we were still craving sushi and decided to try Sushi Zone. It's on the 2nd floor of the Pacific Renaissance Plaza in Oakland' Chinatown.

When we first walked in, I immediately realized that the staff and sushi chefs were speaking Cantonese. I'm no expert on sushi and actually prefer the Americanized "special" rolls so this didn't disturb me too much. We ordered several of their special rolls and a katsu don lunch special. Everything was pretty good and fresh, if not too exciting. Service was friendly and efficient. We loved the decor of the restaurant - very modern, loft-like look. The lunch came out to be ~$40 for two, but I took most of my donburi home.

Anyone know of good Japanese restaurants close to Berkeley, other than Kirala? I'm on the quest to find some good ones, since it's ridiculous to wait for an hour or more everytime I have a sushi craving.
