Everything other than sushi (Tokyo & Kyoto)

GabeTO | Mar 11, 201705:38 PM     6

A recent post (https://www.chowhound.com/post/weird-...) pointed out that so much of the questions on this board are about sushi. The same thread started to get into other options, and I thought it would be good to start a thread to share suggestions for people who've already done their sushi/kaiseki research and need help with the other aspects of Japanese cuisine in Tokyo and Kyoto.

So, when you're not splurging on top sushi and kaiseki, what are some restaurants you love (let's say anywhere from 1,500 - 8,000 yen per person) in Tokyo and Kyoto?

It would be great to hear about:
Tempura, Soba, Yakitori, Ramen, Tonkatsu, Unagi, and Yakiniku.
