Japantown is really starting to swing with some very good destination restaurants.
Sushi Maru is located in the big Blockbuster building. Its decor is modern but warm and welcoming. The staff is friendly and efficient.
The food was of very high quality and generous quantity at very economical price points. The Katsu Don was thoughfully served in a glazed clay bowl. The egg was baked to perfection, near crispy on the edges and moist in the center. Nori shavings and pickled daikon rounds adorned the eggy summit. The pork cutlet, egg and rice were well harmonized. This preparation at the very least equals that of nearby Gombei. The gyoza were fried to a golden hue with and
the filling was flavorful. The sushi was very fresh
and particular mention goes to the rainbow roll which was stuffed almost rigid with sweet fresh crab. The restaurant was busy and is the choice of the staff of nearby Yu-Ai Kai for lunch.
