Hi, I'm a chowhound. I wish I knew this before, but I didn't until I found this Web site. I knew I wasn't a foodie, I know what I like and I will go out waay of my way if I know what I like is good someplace.
Surprisingly enough, there are a lot of places in Kansas City that have really good, nice Sushi. We even have an outfit that supplies select grocery stores with really fresh, nice sushi/sashimi trays, and at fairly affordable prices. Jun's, a place on Barry Road whos name escapes me but their just east of I29 are the places I used to go to most.
But our biggest surprise is Matsu. They opened less than a year ago on Westport Road. They're kind of a multimedia Japanese restaurant that opened in a former bookstore space. The top floor is teppanyaki tables, the mid-level is a kneel/hole for your feet formal Japanese dining room and the botton floor hosts a sushi bar plus tables and serves good Japanese food across the board.
Their sushi is EXCELLENT. And my biggest addiction is spicy tuna rolls and theirs really trips my trigger. Just enough heat. Succulent, fresh tuna. It keeps getting reinforced every time I go there. They also have a luscious lobster roll as well as many other selections (one of my best friends likes the sashimi special, about $30 worth of mostly raw fish. And he thinks Matsu is about the best too).
