This place surprised me in a good way. The room is clean and modern with nice design touches, the staff are very welcoming and interested in (and accommodating towards) your likes/dislikes, but the food - when was the last time you had raw shrimp (known as sweet shrimp I believe) in your combo? (For me, not since Vancouver 20 years ago!) Or raw scallop? Both were impeccably fresh and delicious. As were the rest of the more traditional offerings. Their miso soup has a generous amount of seaweed and the tofu is still in recognizable pieces and I found the flavour to be deep and satisfying without being salty. The green tea is earthy and slightly smoky, just how I like it. Even the salad dressing on the ubiquitous iceberg salad is alluring.... and I think that they do something with the soy sauce because when I got take out once it didn't come in commercial packages. Oh,, and the Wasabi is pretty explosive, and the ginger is the real thing.
For the location I think this is a great find and I wish them well, and hope they can afford to keep up the standard of their food.
I would not say this is a destination sushi restaurant such as Café Michi or Zen - and there is no sushi bar to sit at - but if you live in Leslieville/Riverdale/Little India it's head and shoulders above anything else in the area. Open all day I believe, and they offer delivery too.
