I am planning on going to Gari this week for omakase at the sushi bar...when I asked the hostess on the phone about the omakase pricing, she gave me a vague answer about the customer setting a price. She implied that the price would be whatever the chef decides, which could be too expensive for me (my budget is $80 per person).
Is it rude/impolite to eat at the bar and tell the chef or server that I want omakase but can only spend $80 per person? How can I do this?
What is the proper way to request omakase - to a waiter or directly to the chef?
Thanks. I'm new to this process, since I've always had table service a la carte.
