Where to go for sushi

foodiehousewife89 | Jan 19, 201905:21 AM 2
Southwest Phoenix Sushi Arizona Tempe Trip Planning

My husband and I are going to be in Tempe, AZ for Wicked and want to go out for sushi before or after the show. I love hand rolls but can't do big chunks of the raw stuff. I know I know, bad foodie! What kind of sushi lover can't handle real sushi! Lol. Anyway, what is a good place for someone who loves hand rolls and also has a fair selection of sushi that isn't raw? We are coming from Flagstaff in case that helps. Thank you

Akaihana, just east of I17 and just north of Northern, has a nice and interesting variety - not high end, but good. We’ve been there a few times on the way to/from PHX and enjoyed it. Hope you’ll get some suggestions closer to Gammage....If so, do keep this place in mind for another PHX trip. Enjoy Wicked!

Akaihana is a good choice if you're looking for somewhere to stop on the way from Flagstaff to Tempe. It's just a quick stop off I-17.

If you're looking for sushi close to Gammage Auditorium, there is only one place I can think of within walking distance. Called Umami at Shady Park, it's part music venue, part pizzeria, and part Japanese restaurant all in a dining room that looks like a 1970s man cave. Somehow, it all works. The place is probably best known for its ramen, but sushi has recently been added to the menu, and I've enjoyed what I've had there. The selection is not as extensive as at some other places, but I think the focus helps maintain quality.
