The Surrendered Wife....

Chowhoundress | Sep 22, 2004 09:27 AM

Ok so I am starting a new chapter in my life. After reading The Surrendered Wife: A Practical Guide to Finding Intimacy, Passion, and Peace with Your Man by Laura Doyle I have decided that I need to make some serious changes. Gals, if you haven’t read it I highly suggest it. What an eye opener!

As a real chowhound I figured I would start by making sure that I have a real dinner on the table every night. Since I am also a WOHM this is even more of a challenge. I have crock-pot and lots of freezer space. I am also a very good cook but have found that I just haven’t been cooking that much and relying too much on take-out (which most nights I made my husband pick up). So this past weekend I stocked the pantry and made chili, beef stew and French onion soup and packed it up in dinner size portions for the freezer. I also made traditional lasagna, veggie lasagna, ratatouille, and Shepard’s pie again into the freezer they went. I also made a few loaves of bread with my bread maker. So I am feeling like I’ve got the “too busy to cook” nights covered for a while.

But what about cooking for every night? I get home from work around 5:30 and we try to eat by 6:30 or 7 pm. Of course I can do steaks, roasted chicken, broiled/seared fish etc but what about some more creative/special but quick ideas? It got me thinking so I though I would ask the ‘experts’:

What are your top 5 or 10 every day meals? What meals do you cook on regular basis that you and your family love? Recipes appreciated!
