Surprisingly good cake in Watertown

kerms | Jan 27, 2006 10:26 AM

In search of a last-minute birthday cake last night, I drove down Watertown St. with the aim of hitting up Russo's. But I noticed Antoine's Pastry Shop at 317 Watertown St. and decided to stop in.

The selection of cakes was limited (mostly chocolate mousse-based ones with a ganache coating), but I noticed a lonely cake decorated with white chocolate shavings and took it home.
Having never bought a cake from Antoine's before, I was a little nervous serving it up to all the guests. But biting into the perfectly moist, not too dense, not too sweet white cake layered with buttercream and raspberry filling, I knew it'd be hard not to have a second helping of cake.
Boy am I glad I caught them just before they closed for the night. Beware my waistline because this is bad news that such a good pastry shop is so close to my place. eek.
