Surprising Burger at Santa Monica Library

estnyboer | Jan 7, 2008 03:43 PM

I was at the Santa Monica Library today, the fancy new one on Santa Monica and 6th. I was hungry. I went to the "Bookmark Cafe," situated in a lovely open-air courtyard, and ordered a cheeseburger.

This surprising burger jumps right in to my Favorites category. The patty was large and full of pepper, the red leaf lettuce was fresh, the tomato was not bad, the cheese was well melted, and the special sauce had the right balance.

No, this is not a contemporary luxury burger made with four kinds of veal and Gruyere. It's a basic lunchtime beauty wrapped in paper with a reg'lar-type sesame seed bun.

No fries, chips only. The cafe has a pretty large cafe menu of sandwiches, smoothies, coffee and they offer a couple kinds of soup. Free wireless.

Cheeseburger only with tax: $6.12
Eating a cheeseburger at the public library: Pricele$$
