Last month on National Fried Chicken Day, I decided to change it up a bit with KFC (Korean Fried Chicken). I picked Surisan at Fisherman's Wharf as a place in the City I'd not tried yet, dropping in for brunch.
Made with boneless thigh dark meat, the hunks of chicken are marinated and then fried to order to a delectable crisp. I ordered mine as a Caesar salad, meaning that the warm KFC was piled on top of Romaine and kale dressed with a garlicky dressing and some parmesan. A lot of crunchy bacon and croutons in there too. Then on the side for dipping, some sweet red chile sauce and a second container of thickish, ecru sauce that I thought was more Caesar dressing. Nope, it was warm country gravy! I actually preferred the gravy dip to the chile sauce.
I had the place to myself inside, as other patrons opted for sunny tables outside. Service was friendly and my only ding would be that the promised wi-fi was not working.
