Supermercado y Taqueria Chapala, Rogers Park

zim | Mar 17, 200310:47 AM

This is definitely my new favorite Rogers Park Taqueria. The grocery section is serviceable but not in league with Supermercado Morelia down the block, but the place still bustles (or at least did Saturday late in the afternoon) and all the folks are at the butcher/taqueria section of the store. People were lining up to grab carnitas, roasted chickens, tripas, barbacoa etc. in large and small portions for take out. Peek into the back and you can see the meats roasting on a real grill with the flames kicking up. Taco options are all the favorites (asada, pastor – no pineapple, suadero, lengua, cabeza, cesos, cecina, pus carnitas). They also offer tortas and burritos of all these options. With my two tacos, the tortillas were bursting with grilled meats, topped liberally with onions and cilantro, and a big big bonus, they threw in 3-4 grilled spring onions and a juicy, fat, roasted jalapeno

It’s on the east side of Clark, just up the block from the Adelphi theater.
