If you're in the area or will be visiting, you should not miss Carpenter and Main in Norwich, Vermont (just off I-91, directly across the VT/NH border from Hanover and Dartmouth). My wife and I have been for dinner three times now, and each meal has been absolutely terrific. (Not sure if they're open for lunch.) Cuisine is high-end but not pretentious nouvelle French/American, using lots of local very fresh ingredients, and every dish we've had has been delicious. The chef trained at a Michelin 3-star in France, and at Cafe Boulud and Payard in NYC, and it shows. And for the quality of the food, it's quite a steal.
