Super Short Review: Last 48 Hours of Eating

cubanat | Apr 14, 200804:17 PM

5 pm Friday: Picked up 3 Chowhounds that flew in from Madison, WI.
avoiding rush hour back to Manhattan ate at 3 spots in Flushing, all great
Later that night:
Bar Jamon: food ok, service lackluster (best thing was the sliced chorizo)
Casa Mono: food mediocre, service worse than ever (best thing was the fried bay leaves)
Artichoke & Basille: they were finally open after 3 attempts (the night before they were closed for their uncles 99th birthday...) Pizza was ok. Service was slacker at best & bordering on rude and lazy
Breakfast at Margon: cubans were amazing as ever and served by friendly staff
Russ & Daughters: both food & service were great but why no eggcreams until summer?
Il Laboratorio: gelato was as amazing as ever, service was fine
Guss' Pickles: I grew up with this place so it kill me to say this but: Service was so rude and unorganized we walked away after being skipped over 3 times! Absolutley inept...so we went back to Russ & Daughter and buoght some half sours from them (they were great!)
Katz's: Pastrami on rye with mustard for all and for all just heaven
walking & museum break
Gramercy Tavern: Ate in the bar, food & service were top notch
Tia Pol's Sister Resto: food & service great
2nd Ave. Deli: food & service great (pastrami was a notch below Katz's which still makes it 2nd best in the city)
Momofuku: all around heaven
Dropped them off at Laguardia with day old Beard Papa Cream Puffs (excellent!)
