Super Hunger Brunch - Report and Request

GreenStreetThrill | Feb 10, 2003 10:45 AM

Did anyone have a share-worthy experience at the Super Hunger Brunch this weekend?

We ended up at Kingfish Hall. It wasn't my first choice, but the participating restaurants were selling out quickly and it was the best I could do.

Overall, we were satisfied with the $20, two-course deal, but it was definitely a hit-or-miss affair.

For the first course, we were offered Caesar Salad, Lobster-Corn Chowder or a Yellowfin Tuna Tartare. The Caesar was minimalist to the point of boring, especially in contrast to the rich chowder (I'm told) and the substantial and tasty tuna tartare which had just the right amount of heat.

Second course choices were French Toast, "Juevos Rancheros" and Eggs Benedict. The French Toast, served with raspberries and blueberries, was acceptable, but the bacon that came with it was strictly college dining hall-quality. The "Juevos" had an average fried egg on a tortilla, with a substantial piece of well-executed skirt steak (a little heat in the marinade was nice), some guac, some salsa.

Again, I would have rather tried one of the other options, but we were not disappointed.
