Super Bowl City | The Embarcadero - San Francisco

Hearing from friends who work in FiDi that the traffic around Super Bowl City had not been bad due to locals steering clear, on Sunday I drove home up The Embarcadero to see for myself. There were hardly any cars going northbound, fewer than a typical Sunday evening. At 7pm, I parked in a metered space right in front of La Mar and there was lots of other parking to be had. Eater published a list of the food offerings, so I went through security to see what was inside.

The food vendors are spread apart in the event space. They're a little hard to spot because their facilities are all the same generic gray with no individual logo identity. I was happy to see El Pipila representing The Hall on Sunday, as I've been wanting to try the pozole verde. It was about 10 ounces worth for $10, and served burning hot. Flavors were good but the shreds of chicken were way overcooked and chewy. Still, I'd like to try it again back at its home kitchen.

This was not enough food for dinner. I had intended to stop at another food vendor on my way back to the car, but the kitchens were already shutting down before 8pm even though SBC was open until 9pm that night.

Sonoma County Vintners are the official wine at the event. The tasting lounge looked crowded, one of the few areas that seemed busy.

The view of the Bay Lights was great from here. For me, as someone who doesn't follow the game, there was not much of interest. I was in and out in about an hour. I guess this was my once-in-a-lifetime chance to see that many Bud Lite cans in one place. I really feel bad for the farmers who sell at Ferry Plaza on Saturday --- the farmers market was deserted by customers last weekend and probably will be this coming Saturday too.

The schedule of free concerts looked good, if you can handle the crowds. Watch for pickpockets. Hookers are arriving by the vanload.
